Front Yard Flower Bed Rebuild with TX River Rock and Steel Edging

Some flower beds just reach a point where a quick cleanup won't cut it anymore. The brick edging was shifting and falling apart, the ground cover had broken down, and the plants weren't doing anything cohesive. It looked tired. The kind of tired that makes the whole front of the house feel unfinished, even though the home itself is really nice.

So we stripped it all out and started fresh. We pulled the old brick edging, cleared the beds, and installed professional steel edging to give everything a clean, defined border that actually holds its shape long-term. Steel edging is a big upgrade over brick or plastic - it stays flush, it doesn't heave out of the ground, and it gives you that crisp line that separates the bed from the lawn cleanly.

For the ground cover, we went with TX river blend rock. It's a great fit for Texas homes - it handles the heat, it doesn't break down like mulch does, and the warm, natural tones complement the limestone and brick on this house really well. We also wrapped the tree ring out front in the same river rock to tie the whole yard together visually. Small detail, big difference.

The shrub trimming was just as important as everything else. We shaped the existing shrubs back so they sit more uniformly along the foundation. Right now they look tidy and intentional - and over time, as they fill in, they'll grow into a much fuller, more unified hedge line. That's the goal with trimming like this. You're not just cleaning up what's there, you're setting the plants up to perform better down the road.

End result is a front yard that actually matches the quality of the home. The beds have structure now. The materials are built to last. And the plants have room to do their thing.
