Xeriscaped Backyard Cleanup Gets Back Under Control

Xeriscaped yards are a great low-maintenance option - until they're not. Without regular attention, weeds move in fast, shrubs push past their boundaries, and the whole thing starts to look more like a neglected field than a thoughtfully designed yard. That's exactly what we were working with here.

The beds were packed with weeds competing with the intentional plantings. Shrubs along the fence line and near the deck had grown well past any defined shape. The mulch was thin and tired in spots, and the gravel paths had lost their clean lines. The design was still there underneath all of it - it just needed someone to get in and do the work.

We cleared out the weeds across every bed, cut the overgrown shrubs back so the actual plants could breathe, and topped off the mulch beds so everything had a clean, dark base again. The circular center bed got the same treatment - weeds pulled, plants trimmed up, and the gravel path around it cleared out so the layout reads the way it was intended to.

Here's the thing about xeriscaping - the whole point is that it should be easier to manage than a traditional lawn. But it still needs periodic cleanup to stay that way. When you let it go too long, you end up spending a lot more time and effort getting it back to baseline. A routine yard cleanup keeps that from happening.

What we ended up with is a backyard that finally looks like the xeriscape it was always meant to be. The beds have definition again, the paths are usable, and the plants that belong there actually have room to grow. Clean, simple, and ready to stay that way with a little ongoing maintenance.
